Der Raum

More than just drinks, Der Raum is an experience. This Richmond veteran displays a healthy respect for the history of cocktails with a firm eye on the future. Mid week is the tip here, grab a seat at the bar and allow the bartenders to talk you through your options and watch your drink come to life in some of the weirdest and most wonderful ways. Nitrogen and fire are not playthings, but someone forgot to tell these lads. They add to the experience and make for some fantastic drinks. Highlights for drinks that embody the best of taste and theatre have to be The El Moroccan Blazer and The Pharmacy. Everything here is fresh, including the juice, the fruit and most importantly the chat behind the bar. Keep an eye on their Facebook and website for upcoming degustation nights, which sell out early. They’re amazing value, you’ll learn heaps and get you well on your way. Details: Der RaumFacebook: Der Raum

Barbagallo Trattoria E Pizzeria

I Carusi was sick. Pietro Barbagallo made it so. But he sold both I Carusi restaurants and you won’t find us making any entries about them now. We will however yell and scream about his new venture on Lonsdale St in the city. There is a beautiful fit out, loads of space to sit at the bar and watch the all Italian kitchen staff spin pizza bases and yell what we can only presume are Italian profanities at each other. A carefully considered pasta and pizza menu incorporates freshness and simplicity to great effect, meaning that every dish cries out to be ordered and devoured. 103 Lonsdale St, City 9639 6222
