Biero Bar

When Biero first opened, we didn't think much of it. A revolutionary beer storage system to put bottled beers on tap looked cool, but frankly the beers were a little mainstream and didn't really warrant writing about. But now, WOW. A fresh injection of talent and passion behind the bar has transformed this into one of the country's best boutique beer bars. The taps hold a rotating selection of boutique local beers. The pricing is simple $5 for a pot, $10 for a pint, doesn't matter what it is.And then there is the fridges. Ow, the fridges. Stocked with rare, obscure, impossible to procure delights from the world over. And they hold less than a third of the stock. A quick peek inside the cellar reveals that this place is run by fanatics, scouring the globe to purchase the best and rarest, all in the name of sharing it with any beer lover who will give them the honour of walking through the door.Dessert beers to wheat beers, porters, stouts, anything and everything. Introductory beers through to stuff that only seasoned professionals could possibly admire. The bar is staffed by beer nuts, highly knowledgable but also highly approachable. Chef talent in the kitchen delivers some paired pearls of wisdom that make this a fully rounded experience. Add to this a great vibe where you can sit and enjoy your beer or have a boogie and mingle with the crowd.Put it on your list of must-dos. You won't be disappointed. After work drinks tonight. Do it.Biero Bar - 525 Lonsdale St, CBDOpen 6 Days til 1amDetails: Biero Bar

Long Play

It's a bold pairing that decides to take a unique mash of style and ideas, throw them together and just hope they work. Danish furniture in a neighbourhood bar with some basic (but great) food, cocktails, wine and, why not just a cinema for good measure. Doesn't sound like the recipe for a cracking bar, but let us tell you, that's exactly what's been created.St Georges Rd in North Fitzroy has been exploding with awesome venues lately, most notably Jorg and Supermaxi. And this little bar is playing up around the top end of the market that these players are aiming for too. Wines from France, Italy, Spain and down the road all create a great drinking and efficient list. The back bar evolves by the week, with something for everyone from aperitif to whisky and finishing with a digestif, you feel compelled to hit the full gamut in a single session.Grab some antiapsto or light snacks to round out a perfect evening. The marinated olives to pick and share or Asparagus au Gratin and Italian style meatballs do surprisingly well to fill you right up.Be sure to pay respect to the vinyl only music line up spinning on LP.Long Play - 318 St Georges Rd, North Fitzroy MapOpen 7 DaysDetails: Long Play

The Little Mule Company

It seemed for a while there the whole custom fixed gear buy online, bespoke, but not really bespoke scene was getting a new entrant every day. This scene was producing progressively cheaper and more rubbish bikes by the day too. So it’s a wonder it took this long for someone to go the other way. Welcome Little Mule. The ability to see your bike and ride it before you purchase it is a bit of a coup in this modern cycling world. Furthermore, great coffees paired up with breakfast and lunch options, you’ve got the makings of the pot of gold at the end of the hipster rainbow. And building a bike here has limitless options and no-one is going to judge your set-up. It’s a bit like cruising the menu in a Michelin star restaurant, but having the option to order vegemite toast if that’s your flavour. You get an unbranded rig with top end parts that isn’t going to fall apart, looks bad arse and not the same as the rest of your bike gang. Roll down for a coffee and whet your appetite for rad bikes and delicious food. Little Mule 19 Somerset Place, City Map Details: Little Mule*P.S. They serve killer coffee, check the Epicure in today's The Age for a full run down. *P.P.S. We ran this story before we knew they were going to.

2 Brothers Brewery

There are a stack of great boutique beers coming out of Victoria and we plan to try every last one of them this summer. But in honour of this sunny day, we'll start with our current favourite. 2 Brothers brew from their place down in Moorabbin, you can pop in there for a couple of beers straight from the brewery while grabbing some snacks (check the map below). There are a growing number of bottleshops stocking their selection of beers and ciders, with noteables being McCoppins Cellars, Seamstress Cocktail Bar in the city and Black Pearl in Fitzroy. There is something for everyone in this tasty line up. Especially keep an eye out for their Gypsy Cider, a pear and apple combo that's crisp, refreshing and not too dry. Perfect for a sunny session. The Growler American Brown Ale is the perfect 'gateway' dark beer, not too heavy and beautifully flavoured. The Taxi Pilsener, which is available on tap at Black Pearl is a great alternative to the over-hopped Euro Pilseners doing the rounds of late.
